Kimonos by Everett Wong
Posted in Fashion by Sean FenzlI had the pleasure of photographing some of the fantastic fashion design work of Everett Wong recently. A bit of a mix of contemporary silk screens with the timeless japanese kimono style. (please bear with me, I’m no fashionista - yet)
Everett was excited that the cherry blossoms were in bloom at the Tamagawa Gardens up at Vancouver Island University (formerly Malaspina College) so we had to act fast to take advantage of the beautiful scene this was creating! Luckily, there was enough of a break from rain on this mid-week afternoon, so Everett arranged the models, I got my gear together, and we all met up at the gardens.
I arrived early, as I always do, and scoped out a few good backdrops. I knew we’d come back under the blossoms for some shots, but wanted to get some variety for his portfolio. He really liked the images with the secondary subject at the back, mid-stride across the bridge. The processing you see here was more for my personal tastes, and Everett settled on more natural images for his portfolio.
Everett helped me on the shoot as well, balancing lightstands, hanging my equipment out over the pond precariously, and shaking cherry trees until they gave us just the right amount of falling petals. I think we worked as a pretty darn good team.
Update: Everett is a quite the stand-up fellow! He was quite pleased with the photos, and just delivered to me, a custom silk screened shirt for my birthday! How cool is that?
