A portrait, a new image.

authors portrait jo-ann carson

As an author... it really can be optional to reveal yourself at all.  That being said, when you do - you've got options, right?  Author Jo-Ann Carson came by the studio for a session and we explored a few different looks - above, just a few shots to show how different a pose or prop can make an 'image' out of your portrait.

Wine bottle product photography for e-commerce

Since I made that last post, I've shot a few groups of product, but this one will be interesting to post because they've recently updated their logo, and I do believe new labels are on the way this year!

These are the images lined up without any careful retouching yet.. a very nice start considering they'll be used at a size much smaller than this.

Your wine bottles photographed - Pre-Production Tips

product photography on white for website
"Pre-production" is a term used in photography for tasks we can do PRIOR to the shoot to ensure the best results.

In terms of photographing your bottled product, this means starting with the best 'model' possible.

Here's a couple of tips to help you pick the right bottles.

Portraits on location - Ellen Addison

It's hard not to shoot everything in front of that ocean view. [below]

on flexing the muscles of curiosity.

A career in curiosity.. it's music to my ears.  I simply revel in the simplest to the most complicated in design.

If photography does one thing - it certainly teaches you to 'see'.

Amusé Bistro & Unsworth Behind the Scenes Video

While shooting for Amusé recently, I juggled a little point and shoot camera from time to time, to get some video footage of our shoot.

I've paired it up with some of my images in the video below to give you an idea of the shoot experience... a little action in the kitchen, some 'hero' shots, a lot of details, a lot of fresh, local ingredients.. and Chef Bradford - always a pleasure to work with someone so passionate about the 'terroir' aspect of food.  Often, the ingredients are quite literally from the back yard!

2011 in review - Everyone responds to kindness.

...so here it is!

As 2011 came to an end, I took the time in November to have a scan through the 75,000+ images I snapped this year - and started to reflect on the people that trusted in me to create their images.

99th Grey Cup - Most Valuable Canadian, Andrew Harris

99th Grey Cup, Most Valuable Canadian, Andrew Harris

Having only met Andrew Harris a couple of weeks ago, briefly for a portrait, to be at the 99th Grey Cup game this weekend and see him bring in the first touchdown for BC was AWESOME.

There's no better timing to be posting this shot - as he's also been named the 99th Grey Cup's Most Valuable Canadian!

Anglers Dining Room at Dolphins Resort

food photography vancouver seafood

Anglers Restaurant is part of Dolphins Resort up in Campbell River.  I recently was there to capture the fresh, local food being created with a passion.

The menu is fantastic, and the specials are unique offerings that take advantage of catches of the day, seasonal vegetables, or simply the Chef's penchant for experimentation!

Product Photography in the studio...

Jewellery photography on Vancouver Island

Desire Tattoo recently brought in a line of warm wooden jewellery created by a local artist, Jake.

They've had great reactions from visitors to the studio - but upon shooting some pictures of them.. they just were not reflecting the painstaking detail that Jake puts into each of his pieces.  The detail and finishing on these is unreal.
